Project Summary

Dying Isles is a board game focused on resource collecting and board management. The tiles shift and get destroyed over time, well that is with the exception of one land - Last Paradise. Each player represents a clan struggling desperately to claim Last Paradise for themselves and secure their clans survival while the rest fall to the Dying Isles.

Work/Results

The game was designed by Tanner Tilkens who concepted, tested and finalized the game play. It was then my job to take the game (at that point just simple paper and PDF’s) and materialize it by generating the art assets and making it a complete manufacturable product. The budget I had to work with on this was a shoe string budget of $0.00 and I needed to get the product ready within a month deadline to hit the Christmas season yet. Without the ability to hire artists on this and a lot of art to do I hunted online for free to use assets approved for commercial use and decided the best way to keep the product the most coherent among the varying styles was to use pixel art assets. This allowed me to import sprites and duplicate them around the tile to create many different tiles very quickly, this art style also allows a lot of mixing and matching among the sprites while maintaining a similar style. The project was completed within three weeks, and thanks to TheGameCrafter.com we can produce the product on a need to print basis allowing a profit even with small print runs.
